Circular Solutions: Mechanical Recycling
As part of its ambition to reach 1 million tons of circular polymers a year by 2030, TotalEnergies is developing recycled products from mechanical recycling of polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene. Polymers obtained through this process belong to the TotalEnergies RE:use range.
Our acquisitions
Iber Resinas
In 2023, TotalEnergies acquired Iber Resinas, a Spanish producer of recycled polypropylene, polyethylene, and polystyrene for durable applications.
Synova
In 2019, the Company acquired Synova, the French leader in recycled polypropylene compounds for the automotive and construction sectors. Production capacity was doubled in 2021.
Our internal developments
Grandpuits
The Company announced in 2023 the construction of a production unit of polypropylene and polyethylene hybrid compounds containing up to 50% recycled materials.
Carling – Saint-Avold
In 2022, TotalEnergies announced the construction of a new production line of high-performance polypropylene hybrid compounds containing up to 100% recycled materials for the automobile industry.
Antwerp
The TotalEnergies polymer plant in Antwerp produces circular polyethylene compounds since 2019.
Our collaboration and partnerships
Vanheede Environment Group
In 2022, TotalEnergies signed a long-term commercial agreement with Vanheede Environment Group for the supply of post-consumer recycled material to produce recycled polymers for durable applications.
Plastic Omnium
TotalEnergies and Plastic Omnium signed a strategic partnership in 2021 to develop new plastic materials made from recycled polypropylene for the automotive industry.
PureCycle Technologies
In 2020, the Company signed a partnership with PureCycle Technologies for the supply of high-purity recycled polypropylene material.
