TotalEnergies Polyblend confirms €4 million investment to accelerate the production of compounds based on recycled plastics

Brussels, September 1st 2026 – Polyblend has announced the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the conversion of an existing production line at its site in Bad Sobernheim, Germany. This €4 million investment will expand the production of compounds incorporating mechanically recycled materials, in line with the Company’s ambition to strengthen polymer circularity through three key pillars: Rethink plastic use, Reduce its impact, Recycle and develop circularity.

The project involves expanding an existing production line to manufacture a new generation of recycled compounds designed to meet growing market demand for sustainable solutions. The investment anticipates forthcoming European circularity requirements in the automotive sector. In particular, the proposed End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) Regulation is expected to introduce mandatory recycled-content targets for new vehicles, further increasing the demand for compounds incorporating recycled materials.

The converted line shall start operations at the end of 2027 with a capacity to produce up to 15 kt of compounds based on recycled feedstock.

This initiative is fully aligned with the Company’s strategy to accelerate the development of circular solutions and support customers in reducing their environmental footprint. By increasing the integration of recycled materials into its compounds, Polyblend actively contributes to develop a  circular value chain.

“This investment is a tangible demonstration of our ambition to accelerate the development of circular polymers and expand our portfolio of recycled solutions. By leveraging existing industrial infrastructure, we can optimize resources used while maximizing the efficiency of our investments and position Polyblend GmbH as a key partner in the circular economy ” said Michel Cassart, Polyblend Site Director.

About TotalEnergies

TotalEnergies is a global integrated energy company that produces and markets energies: oil and biofuels, natural gas, biogas and low-carbon hydrogen, renewables and electricity. Our more than 100,000 employees are committed to provide as many people as possible with energy that is more reliable, more affordable and more sustainable. Active in about 120 countries, TotalEnergies places sustainability at the heart of its strategy, its projects and its operations.

TotalEnergies develops, produces and commercializes polymers — Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Polystyrene, their recycled equivalents and bio-based polymers — that can be incorporated into the plastics manufacturing process. Lighter than many alternative materials, they help reduce the carbon footprint of end-use applications through enhanced energy efficiency. TotalEnergies’ polymers experts in Europe, Asia and the United States of America are working alongside all the professionals in the value chain, including plastic manufacturers, research centers, waste collection and sorting companies, and their customers to accelerate in the circular economy. The Company is developing different plastic recycling processes and using renewable raw materials, with the ambition to reach one million tons of circular polymers by 2030. TotalEnergies strategy for polymers is based on an integral approach to polymer production: Rethink the use - Reduce the impact - Recycle and develop circularity.
