TotalEnergies and Windmöller & Hölscher Renew Partnership with a New Recyclable Oil and Lubricant Pouch Containing 35% Recycled Plastic

Brussels, Belgium, October 8, 2025 – TotalEnergies and Windmöller & Hölscher have once again joined forces to develop an innovative packaging solution for oil and lubricant applications, fully embracing a circular approach.

The newly developed pouch features a recyclable PE/PA multi-layer structure made of Polyethylene from TotalEnergies’ Lumicene® and Lumicene Supertough® ranges. In addition, it incorporates 35% recycled polymer, thanks to the use of TotalEnergies rPE 2206, a mechanically recycled post-consumer grade.

Leveraging AQUAREX water-quenching technology, the new pouch achieves a thickness of just 170 μm — representing an 83% reduction in material use compared to the standard 1-liter HDPE rigid container that has typically a thickness of 1000 μm.

This latest innovation builds on the companies’ previous successful collaboration, which demonstrated the feasibility of a fully recyclable high-barrier stand-up pouch suitable for food- applications. It further underscores TotalEnergies’ and Windmöller & Hölscher’s shared commitment to advance circularity in packaging solutions.

This new pouch will be exhibited at K 2025 in Düsseldorf from October 8-15, at TotalEnergies’ stand (E20/Hall6) and Windmöller & Hölscher’ stand (A57/Hall17). The films will also be processed during Windmöller & Hölscher’s “inhouse expo” in Lengerich from October 9-10 and 13-14.

“This innovative oil and lubricant pouch illustrates our integral approach to polymer development: we rethink the use of plastics by designing recyclable materials, we reduce their impact by reducing thickness, and we foster circularity by integrating recycled polymers” said Olivier Greiner, Vice President, Polymers Europe & Orient at TotalEnergies.

“This pouch is a tangible example of the industry's major megatrends: designing packaging for recyclability and integrating recycled materials into new products. Achieving this vision requires collaboration across the entire value chain. Only by working together can we close the loop and drive true circularity.” said Dr. Torsten Schmitz, Managing Director Business Unit Extrusion at Windmöller & Hölscher
