Certifications: Supporting the Development of High-Value Circular Polymer Solutions

To accelerate the transition towards more circular and sustainable polymers, robust certification systems are essential to ensure traceability, transparency and trust thanks to independent verifications throughout  value chains.

At  TotalEnergies, EcoVadis, ISCC PLUS and RecyClass address complementary aspects of sustainability performance and product traceability. Together, they provide recognized frameworks that enable customers and stakeholders to rely on standardized methodologies, documented processes and independent third-party assessments.

3 Certifications, 1 common objective:  Ensure transparency

EcoVadis assesses overall corporate sustainability performance.

ISCC PLUS, an annual third-party audit to certify material flows, allocation rules and sustainability claims.

RecyClass verifies recycled content in specific products.

EcoVadis: Evaluating Sustainability Management Practices

EcoVadis assesses companies across four key sustainability themes:

  • Environment
  • Labor & Human Rights
  • Ethics
  • Sustainable Procurement

In 2025, TotalEnergies Refining & Chemicals achieved a score of 84/100 and was awarded a Gold Medal, placing the company among the top 5% performing organizations assessed by EcoVadis.

To reach this score, a review of sustainability management practices and supporting evidence is made across more than 100 TotalEnergies production sites, including polymer manufacturing operations.

This way, EcoVadis provides an independent evaluation framework that proves TotalEnergies commitment to sustainability for customers and stakeholders.

ISCC PLUS: Verifying Traceability Through Mass Balance for our polymers production

For several consecutive years, TotalEnergies polymers production sites have maintained ISCC PLUS certification.

ISCC PLUS is an internationally recognized certification system providing a robust chain-of-custody framework, ensuring the traceability of recycled and renewable feedstock throughout the chain of custody.

At TotalEnergies, the quantity of sustainable materials entering the production process is accurately allocated to certified products, through a mass balance approach.

During annual independent audits, verification is made on :

  • Traceability of renewable and recycled feedstocks
  • Mass balance accounting methodologies
  • Allocation rules
  •  Proofs of sustainability

Maintaining ISCC PLUS certification requires rigorous management of material flows, and robust documentation especially for complex value chains such as the ones in TotalEnergie R&C Branch.

RecyClass: Verifying Recycled Content in Certified Grades

While ISCC PLUS focuses on feedstock traceability throughout the value chain, RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification verifies the recycled content incorporated into specific polymers.

In 2026, BU POL achieved RecyClass certification for:

  • 3 grades produced at TEPA (Belgium)
  • 6 grades produced at Polyblend (Germany)

The RecyClass certification is based on:

  • Controlled blending and traceability in processes
  • Documented chain-of-custody management (from qualified recycled feedstocks to the recycled containing end product sent to customers)
  • Independent third-party audits conducted by Kiwa

As a result, the recycled content associated with these grades is measured, documented and independently verified according to recognized certification requirements.

This approach contributes to the development of high-performance recycled-content polymers suitable for applications where traceability and recyclability is increasingly required (cf. PPWR legislation). Thanks to TotalEnergies’ experts, a new portfolio of sustainable and recycled polymer grades has been designed and certified, even for the most challenging applications.

Three Complementary Frameworks Serving One Objective

Although they address different dimensions, EcoVadis, ISCC PLUS and RecyClass share a common purpose:

✅ Providing transparent and independently verified information

✅ Supporting the integration of recycled and renewable resources into high value-added circular polymers  and value chains

✅ Accelerating the transition towards more circular and sustainable polymers

Together, these frameworks illustrate the importance for TotalEnergies to achieve the highest level in  recognized standards, through independent audits and robust verification processes in supporting the development of high value -added circular polymers.
